It is often very easy to spot a child who may one day grow up to invent an amazing product or service. To be sure, while other children may be focusing on their toys’ intended purposes, future inventors are often looking beyond, reimagining the purpose of these toys and seeing what other types of fun can be had using the same items. Some of these children will even make modifications to their toys in hopes of creating something truly special. Of course, as parents, it is our duty and...

Spending time with the kids is unquestionably one of the most wonderful parts of the Thanksgiving holiday. For many of us, this national holiday provides a few precious free days away from work or school, during which we can stay at home with the little ones and spend quality time together as a family. Of course, those of us who are cooking Thanksgiving dinner this year must also find time to make magic in the kitchen outside of time with the family. But wouldn’t it be much easier to combine...

Because of the bravery required of firefighters around the world and the courage that they display, many...

Science in the Kitchen for Babies and Toddlers

by on Thursday, November 12, 2015 3:10:00 PM

It may seem as if babies and even toddlers are too young to begin learning about the complex world of science. Of course, many of us associate the idea of science with many of the more complicated themes within the fields of physics, chemistry, and biology, which present significant difficulties for full-fledged adults, let alone children under the age of four. However, learning about basic science doesn’t necessarily need to include an overview of molecular bonds or the theory of gravity....

Taking the final trip to the hospital to deliver your newborn baby will certainly be one of the most exciting moments in your entire life. To be sure, the arrival of your baby represents two incredible moments in your life: for one, it is the culmination of your nine-month pregnancy, a time that you grew a beautiful child within your womb; and furthermore it is the very beginning of your baby’s new life. As parents, many of us are quite familiar with the curious nature of newborns, toddlers, and even school-aged children. We may come into the kitchen, only to find that our entire set of drawers have been turned upside down; or we may wander into our closets only to find all of our clothes have been dumped on the ground by a pair of curious kids. Of course, it’s wonderful that children have a curious spirit and are always interested in investigating new ideas and areas; however, it can be...

4 Manners Parents Should Be Teaching Children

by on Friday, November 06, 2015 8:00:00 AM

There are a variety of manners that our parents taught us when we were children in our youth. To be sure, many of us may remember our parents demanding that we take our elbows off the table during dinner, or asking us multiple times to remove our hats when we went inside the house. Of course, some of these may seem outdated now, but those requests likely helped shape us into the adults we are today. And one thing is for certain: it is up to us, as parents, to teach our own children...

How to Make the Most Out of Parent-Teacher Conferences

by on Wednesday, November 04, 2015 12:17:00 PM

In general, at some point in their lives all parents will likely be required to attend a parent-teacher conference. These conferences are designed to allow the parents to discuss any questions or concerns with the child’s teacher, and for the teacher to offer a review of the child’s progress during the school year. Depending on the school, parent-teacher conferences will be scheduled two to four times per year for 15-20 minutes at a time, a relatively short amount of time to have all of your...

Lively Toys to Cultivate Your Little Farmer

by on Monday, November 02, 2015 12:14:00 PM

Letting your little one head outside and dig in the dirt in the backyard allows your child to feel the textures and smell the odors of the earth, and develop a stronger connection to the ground beneath our feet. It also lets them encounter various insects and subterranean organisms and often helps them develop a love for gardening and the basics of farming. But now that the summer behind us, and the winter is creeping closely, it’s no longer possible to let your little farmer spend hours...
