Actually Fun Baby Shower Games

Most adults have been to what seems like a thousand baby showers. They are cute, and it is nice to catch up with friends, but they can also be really boring. If you are throwing a baby shower, you want to make sure it’s fun for the mama and all of the guests. You know to have good food, good drinks, and good decorations. One of the toughest parts is playing baby shower games that are actually fun.

A quick search online will show you hundreds of games that are awkward, gross, and even humiliating. In order to have a great shower and avoid grossing everyone out, try some of these great games that are actually fun.

Make a baby

There are several ways to play the make a baby game. Using index cards and washable markers, ask guests to hold the cards on their heads and draw what they think the baby will look like. Another way to play is ask people to tear out a baby shape from a piece of paper. This is not as easy as it looks and guests will get a kick out of seeing their ‘art’ work. Of course at the end of these games, the mother to be chooses the best baby and the artist wins a prize.

Word games

Word games at showers are fun and relatively easy. They don’t take a lot of preparation or time to complete. It is very easy to find printables online or make your own. You can play matching games with adult animals to baby names, celebrities and their children’s names, or matching animals to the number of days of gestation.

Word scrambles are extra fun, and can be extra hard. Give guests a list of words that have been scrambled and have to do with babies. For example, blaro instead of labor. Guests must try to unscramble as many words as they can within 90 seconds. Whoever gets the most right wins a prize.

One game that makes everyone laugh and gets everyone involved is mad libs. You can write your own story about your pregnancy journey, your potential birthing story, or advice for the mom-to-be. There are also many printables online. There are two ways to play. You could sit in a circle and ask each person for a noun, adverb, adjective, or whatever your story calls for. If you play this way, you will have one story to read out loud at the end. If you are short on time, this is the way to go. You could also just print out a list for each guest to fill out, then reveal the story and ask each guest to read the story, filling in their own answers. This will give you many stories and a lot of laughs.

Artsy Games

If you have a group that is into crafting and want to make some nice gifts for mom and the baby, try some fun crafting games. You could buy a bunch of plain white onesies and bring some fabric paints. Allow each guest to paint the onesie with cute pictures or special messages.

Another cute gift is to bring enough diapers for each guest and ask the guests to write a special message to the parents on each of the diapers. Permanent marker will not bleed through the diaper. These messages will be read during midnight changings, tough days, and precious moments. Each time the parent sees your message, it will give them a little boost.

Another cute idea is to get 26 pieces of high quality, thick paper and colored pencils. Assign each guest a letter and ask them to draw the letter and a picture that goes along with it. If you want to make it easier, you can print alphabet pages beforehand. After each guest draws a picture for each letter, you can bind the book at a printer or bind it yourself. There are instructions online for book binding, or you can buy a kit. This little book will be the baby’s first alphabet book and will have special meaning.

Choosing Great Prizes

You don’t need to spend a fortune on prizes to give stuff that people will really like. The most important thing is to stick within your budget. If you are trying to be frugal, make some cookies or cookie mix in a jar.

A great way to choose prizes is to choose something that goes along with your shower theme. For example, if you are having a tea party, give tea bags or tea cups as prizes. Other cute prizes are small bottles of wine, wine glasses, candles, honey, nail polish, or plants. Whatever you choose, wrap a pretty ribbon around it and your guests are sure to love it.
